Commissions

A commissioned painting starts with a conversation about what the piece should hold: a place, a season, a person, a memory. It is collaborative from the first sketch to the finished work.

一 / 1It starts with the wall: tell me where it will hang, and what the room's light does in the evening.
二 / 2I send a brush sketch of the composition. We adjust it together until it feels right.
三 / 3Half comes first. It buys the paper, the ink, and the place in line. Most pieces take three to five weeks.
四 / 4You see the finished painting before anything ships. If it misses, we talk about why. The sketch stage exists so it rarely does. If it misses and talking doesn't fix it, the deposit comes back less the paper and ink, call it a tenth.
五 / 5The rest is due only when you approve the piece, and the work ships flat or rolled, insured.

What a commission costs

Commissioned pieces run $500 to $1,800 depending on size and complexity. That is a little above gallery pieces, because we shape it together. The sketch stage is free. Walk away at any point before the deposit.
